Development of Flipbook E-Module of Biofuel Practice as Alternative Fuel with Guided Inquiry Model to Improve Science Process Skills and Analytical Thinking of High School Students
Abstract
The dwindling fossil fuel reserves and the escalating impact of climate change necessitate the development of renewable energy sources like biofuel, particularly bioethanol derived from lignocellulosic biomass such as water hyacinth and soybean hull. Utilizing waste materials is crucial for reducing CO2 emissions and providing energy alternatives. However, high school students' understanding and practical skills regarding biological technology innovations, especially biofuel, remain limited. Therefore, it is essential to instill concepts of renewable energy (biofuel) through practical activities. This research aimed to develop and test the effectiveness of a biofuel practical flipbook e-module with a guided inquiry model to enhance the Science Process Skills (SPS) and analytical thinking of 10th-grade high school students.
This study employed the Educational Design Research (EDR) method using the ADDIE Model. The development of the flipbook e-module practical adhered to practical components, integrating text, images, videos, and animations. It was designed to support independent and interactive learning, optimizing multimedia principles in education. The development results showed that the product is highly feasible with an average score of 3.6.
The implementation of the biofuel practical flipbook e-module with guided inquiry proved to significantly improve students' Science Process Skills (SPS) and analytical thinking abilities. MANOVA test results (p<0.00) indicated a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The implementation of this biofuel practical flipbook e-module as a learning material effectively enhances students' Science Process Skills and analytical thinking in biological technology innovation.
